Mission
& Objectives
According to its Mission Statement, adopted in December
2000, the role of EBAC goes beyond providing accreditation
services:
"The European Board for Accreditation
in Cardiology (EBAC) will stimulate, coordinate, and facilitate
high quality Continuing Medical Education (CME) in cardiology,
both for individuals and institutions, in order to provide
the highest possible standard of care for patients and populations."
EBAC takes the responsibility for
the development, availability and quality of international
CME in European cardiology.
Practically EBAC:
|
|
Advises and helps those, who wish to establish accreditation
procedures in cardiology
|
|
|
Facilitates individual cardiologists' international
CME credit acquisition
|
|
|
Encourages the recognition of those credits by national
authorities
|
|
|
Produces guidelines for CME in Cardiology.
|
EBAC will facilitate and accredit
all types of international CME activities in cardiology, and
promote the application of new information technologies.
EBAC intends to guide practitioners in their choice of distance
based CME activities by displaying the EBAC logo on the accredited
Internet CME courses, CD ROMs and CME articles.

EBAC Activities
The primary and most visible activity of EBAC is the accreditation
of international educational programmes in cardiology in Europe:
both events/ congresses and distance learning programmes (CD
ROMs, Internet based courses, CME Articles).
EBAC is also involved in:
Harmonisation
of CME in Europe (in cooperation with EACCME)
Set
up of accreditation systems at national levels (using
EBAC experience and expertise in on-line accreditation)

Relation to EACCME
& UEMS
EACCME:
EBAC works in accordance with quality guidelines
established by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing
Medical Education (EACCME) which is an institution of the
European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS)
UEMS:
3 EBAC members are mandated by the UEMS Cardiology
