What is EBAC Accreditation?

What is EBAC Accreditation/ What programmes can be accredited? / Who can apply?

What is EBAC Accreditation

EBAC accreditation means the scientific content of a CME activity was reviewed and approved by an independent board of european experts in cardiology and that the CME provider has fulfilled the EBAC quality requirements.

It also means that the programme has been developed for an international audience, its scientific content is of high quality, it complies with the EACCME Guidelines on CME, and is free of commercial bias.

more information in the section "about ebac".

What programmes can be accredited?

EBAC accredits international Continuing Medical Education programmes in Cardiology. There are two types of programmes :

Events

congress, conference, seminar, lecture, workshop, clinical training where participants attend educative programmes on various topics in cardiology.

Distance Learning Products
CD ROMs, Internet based Courses, CME Articles where physicians learn at their own pace.

EBAC's priorities in assessing these programmes individually remain always the same (regardless of the technology used):

High quality of the scientific content
International aspects of the programmes (audience and faculty members)
Absence of commercial bias
Interactivity between speakers and participants
Assessment of the knowledge acquired by participants, at the end of the programme

Who can apply?

To be elligible for EBAC accreditation, the CME Provider must be a university, a teaching hospital or a national or international medical society (and its associated working groups or associations).

Commercial companies (conference organisers, healthcare industry, etc) cannot become CME Providers but they may develop a cooperation with one of the above mentioned scientific entities.

Non-European CME providers can also apply for EBAC accreditation, provided the following conditions are met:

All EBAC accreditation rules currently in place should be respected;
The CME provider should cooperate with a European certified CME provider (scientific society, university etc);
European participation in scientific committee and faculty should be equal to the non-European participation (50 %).

TIP! Many CME Providers are already registered with EBAC: For more information, please contact the EBAC office.
